Council Hosts Career Exploration Expo
Southside Virginia high school students learn about co-op careers
Southside Virginia Community College’s Workforce Development Center provided an ideal setting for VCC members and partners to welcome students from Appomattox, Campbell, Halifax and Nottoway counties to learn about their cooperatives and career opportunities that may enable them to pursue work in their area of Virginia.
After Dr. Johnson’s address during the Co-op Month Awards Breakfast that shared how SVCC’s educational programs have evolved to meet current needs, many attendees stayed on to host booths from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Each of nearly 200 students was given a quiz to complete by visiting each booth, which were later using in drawings for door prizes. Students also enjoyed a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken fingers.
“We appreciate both SVCC and our members who took time to help make this event memorable for students from across Southside Virginia,” says Mary Howell, VCC executive secretary.
